Google Ads Clicks with No Sales? This Is How You Fix It
Paying for clicks in your Google Ads campaign and getting NO SALES or CONVERSIONS is honestly the most frustrating thing that can happenâespecially if you are a small business owner.
So in this newsletter, I am going to take you through the exact 5 steps that I go through if I am reviewing a Google Ads account that is getting no conversions.
Step 1: Find Out if the Problem is Sitewide or Isolated to Google Ads
The first thing we need to determine is whether the issue is only affecting Google Ads or if no conversions are coming from any marketing channel.
If conversions are happening from organic traffic or social media campaigns, then the issue is likely within your Google Ads targeting, ad copy, or landing page.
BUT if there are no conversions from any source, the issue is likely with your landing page & offer.
How to Check This
Go to GA4 > Reports > Acquisition > User Acquisition to check conversion events from different traffic sources.
Step 2: Check the Targeting of Your Ads
Ensure youâre reaching the right audience by refining your targeting. Remember, targeting is more than just keywordsâyou need to check:
-
Search Terms â Are they relevant? Avoid broad match terms like "shoes" and instead use specific ones like "menâs running shoes size 10."
-
Location Settings â Make sure youâre targeting the right location. In most cases, the best setting is "Presence"(not "Presence & Interest").
Step 3: Improve Your Ad Copy
Too many advertisers focus solely on keywords and then push hard for the sale.
Your ad copy should include:
-
A clear value proposition â Why should someone choose you?
-
A strong CTA â Whatâs the next step?
-
Pre-framing for the landing page â Ensure alignment with what users see after clicking.
-
Avoid generic terms like "We are the best" or "#1 provider." Instead, differentiate yourself with a unique message, such as: "Call Brian Now" instead of "Call Now" (adds a personal touch!)
Step 4: Optimise Your Landing Page
Once users click, your landing page must match their expectations. A study from Testmate (based on 10,000+ user tests) found these 5 key elements to high-converting landing pages:
-
Clear messaging â What do you do? What do you sell?
-
Simple, beautiful design â Easy to read, with great images
-
Authority markers â Reviews, testimonials, and trust signals
-
Fear removal â Money-back guarantees, secure checkout, etc.
-
Seamless user experience â Easy-to-use booking or purchase process
You donât always need massive redesignsâ small tweaks in structure and messaging can make a huge difference.
Step 5: Review Your Offer
Your offer isnât just about priceâitâs about positioning and brand alignment.
-
Key question: Does your offer match the expectations set by your ad and landing page?
Sometimes, making small adjustmentsâlike bundling products, adding bonuses, or improving messagingâcan significantly boost conversions.
Final Thoughts
Google Ads can drive high-quality traffic, but if that traffic isnât converting, you need to diagnose and fix the right problem.
Following these five steps will help you pinpoint the issue and turn those clicks into real sales.
Have a great week,
